Initial Damage Inspection
A prop inspection found that the tip of one of the blades had been broken off. The ship was forced to use much reduced revs due to the imbalance of the prop and thus speed was also much reduced. Given that it was a 5 bladed prop, we had to cut 200kg’s off the two opposing blades and shape the edges. We marked the sections to be cut off, broco cut holes in the tips of each blade, attached lift bags to the tip, cut the blade and lifted them up to the deck using the ships crane. After the work the ship was up to full revs and close to full speed again. The repair job ws good enough for the vessel to continue using the prop until it’s next scheduled dry docking.
